Christine in her film studio with new laptop and new 4K screen
Mobile video editing in 4K resolution on laptops was a problem until recently.
4K video processing is no longer a problem on our new, self-configured laptop.
No jerking, no waiting times and no proxy files are required anymore.
Christine is happy.

Our new 17 “HD Laptop FHD IPS G-Sync 1920×1080 has the following technical data:

CPU (processor): Intel Core i7-6700MQ, 4x 2.60GHz, 6MB cache
Graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M 4GB GDDR5
Random access memory: 64GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4-2133 SO-DIMM (4x 16GB)
1. Hard Drive / SSD (M.2 / PCIe): 256GB Samsung 950 PRO up to 2200Mb / s read
2. Hard Drive / SSD (M.2 / PCIe): 512GB Samsung 950 PRO up to 2200Mb / s read
3. Hard Drive Hybrid Drive with SSD Cache for SSD-like performance: 1TB Seagate SSHD | 8GB SSD cache, 2.5 “
4. Hard Drive Hybrid Drive with SSD Cache for SSD-like performance: 1TB Seagate SSHD | 8GB SSD cache, 2.5 “
Disks 3 and 4 are interconnected as RAID 0, providing 2 TB at double speed.
Drive: Blu-Ray burner Ultraslim
Power supply: 330W
Built-in card reader
HD audio onboard sound card.
Wireless LAN Internal (M.2): 867Mbps Qualcom-Atheros Killer Wireless AC 1535

When distributing the data to the different hard disks, care should be taken not to create a “bottleneck”.
The two very fast SSD hard drives are connected directly to the motherboard via the fast internal PCIe bus with the 4-core processor, which processes eight threads simultaneously.
To ensure optimal data flow, all programs are stored on the first hard disk C: /.
The project and the project cache are stored on the second hard disk D: /.
This leads to a super-fast data throughput, since many things happen in parallel. The 64 GB RAM also contributes to this.
The entire footage is on the internal hard drive E: /.
This is a RAID 0 system from disks 3 and 4. This eliminates the need for external USB traffic.
It is very important that the footage is saved externally on another hard disk.
RAID 0 means the parallel connection of two hard disks of the same size, whereby the data is sporadically stored on both hard disks.
This results in twice the speed and storage capacity, but has the distinct disadvantage that if one drive fails, all data on both drives will be lost completely.

So always S A V E  ! ! !

The laptop has an extra large fan, but it does not really get up to speed, exept the computer renders.
After all, our catamaran usually has an ambient temperature of about 32 ° C throughout the day!

The selected laptop configuration represents a compromise between price and required performance.

In the equipment the processor, the graphic card, the RAM and the hard disks are hardly limits.
This laptop is sufficient for our current projects.
The laptop was deliberately chosen without a 4K display, which would have made the laptop unnecessarily expensive.
For video editing we use a high-quality external 27 “4K screen, which is connected via HDMI as a second screen.
